Cultural Activity Report Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Cultural Activity Report - Essay Example In fulfillment of the requirements of this course, on 15th/03/2014, I took my time and attended a live concert at the City Auditorium. This was a spectacular event organized by the National Jazz Promoters which features the renowned Jazz Band of America. As a student, I had to attend this show in order to have a first-hand encounter with this high school-students-dominated band. It was indeed a great experience because it exposed me to lots of entertainment that I had never enjoyed before. With the National Jazz Promoters at the helm of the concert, everything went as planned. I was very excited and anxious to come across great figures like David Alex Lacy, Joel Gardella, Aaron Mutchler, Josh Achiron and Max who have made a name in the music industry. Even before the beginning of the event, my attention was captured by the theatre. For sure, the event was organized in a very spacious theatre equipped with modern facilities including chairs, stage, auditorium and laser lights. Meaning, all the fans that had thronged the venue would be easily accommodated without any problem. Besides, there were still enough spaces in which everyone would get to dance and enjoy the sweet melodious songs played by these artists. I was impressed by the manner in which these artists entertained us. Each of them seemed to have been adequately prepared for their respective roles which they played excellently. Meaning, the conductor, vocalists, singers, dancers and the instrumentalists were quite articulate in their performance. Everything was properly coordinated to help in producing sweet sounding rhythms that could be enjoyed by everyone. As a matter of fact, I was particularly delighted by the performances of Phillip Ahn who played the saxophone; Nathaniel McKay who played a trumpet; guitarist Josh Achiron and the pianist Max Holm. Their participating in the concert was so entertaining. A part from these instrumentalists, the singers also displayed a

Native American Art History - Essay Example As the report stresses  there is omission of the Plateau and or is discussed as an imitation of the areas around it, making it hard for the art to be recognized as historical canon. â€Å"A Nez Perce shirt, technically from the Plateau, would be less likely to appear than a similar Crow shirt from the Plains, and a Nez Perce cradle might be overshadowed by one from the Great Lakes†.This essay highlights that exhibitions of Native American art focused broadly on culture areas and more narrowly on the art of specific Native nations or individual artists.P.79.There was thus no exploitation of the artwork.  Adena Pipe was often included in canons as those created by a master or genius. This is because the work was known by archeological designation and location of discovery. The great naturalism and unique nature of the pipe have placed it in the art historical canon.  Great Serpent Mound in Ohio is artwork whose date aligns closely with that of the supernova of the Crab Neb ula.P.74. It fits in the western art canon because it offers immediate comparison to other earthworks that appears in the same volumes of American sculpture.  The artwork is supposed to be wide. There are so many barriers that have limited the artwork.  Masterpieces that break from the tradition of the Native American art make the work and the artist to remain anonymous.  The artwork must conform to the standards and this has made many artworks not to be recognized.

Union Leadership Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Union Leadership - Essay Example The programs in the toolkit also offer guidance to workers (Melcher, 1992). The mandate of this action is to rescue the union from the worst depression that we are facing. The economic condition is deteriorating in an alarming rate therefore we risk facing retrenchment and rise in unemployment. I therefore urge all union workers to consider labor organization as a Political Action Committee to influence the outcome of the union. The reason why I have endorsed it is due to its flexibility and compatibility nature to accommodate the manifestos of our union. With all this I would like to ask you to elect me as the leader of the union. Having successfully contested and won a public office in my previous assignment and steering it to some outstanding achievement. I would like to given a chance to turn the tables round in this mantle. The position of women in union leadership has seen significant rise in the recent past. And it is now evident that women account for 37 percent for all trade unions under the umbrella of the International Labor Organization a key arm of the United Nation This field has however remained dominated by their male counterparts. Only two out of 95 unions in the AFL-CIO have women presidents. The increase of women leadership in the top national position has been very minimal over the past decade. Though there has been a major rise in women leadership in both local and regional levels they have not been able to find a ground to highlight their bargains and grievances to be heard (Swoboda, 1993). Unions have failed women in leadership since they reflect women’s problem at work places. This does not hinder the opportunities of women but also make them feel inferior hence they lack the morale to fight for top positions. The inclusion of women in top leadership in both local and national unions should be increased through unions accepting and paying attention to the growing

Contemporary Issues In World Politics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Contemporary Issues In World Politics - Essay Example On the other hand, importing leads to the development of dependency of the receiving nation on foreign countries. It also leads to a reduction in national reserves thereby contributing to inflation. Moreover, local businesses as well as the labor market are threatened. On the other hand, the importing nation may experience security concerns especially with regards to high tech military hardware. These are addressed through ensuring that the imports are sourced from a trusted source to guarantee security. The decision to import or export is an economic development that influences the political interest of a nation state (Oatley, 2011). Nations react to influences that may have an impact on the military and economic strengths through export controls. A nation may resort to control its exports despite having the capacity to maintain an excessive export surplus over imports. Maintaining high export surplus may be interpreted by the recipient nation states as an aggressive policy that may have an impact on economic and military security hence the need to establish defensive mechanism for the purpose of safeguarding the security interests of the targeted nation for export. Trade affairs between nation states are therefore viewed cautiously in a political perspective (Sachs, 2006). Permission for imports from particular nations and not others is one of the tools that are applied in the establishment of the foreign policy of many nation states. It is applied to persuade governments to adhere to certain agreements that are meant to protect the interests of other nation states. For example, trade embargos have been enforced on countries such as Iraq by the US during the Saddam... This pressure is meant to protect the political and economic interests of the US that have often been threatened by global terrorism. The European Union countries also engaged in an economic agreement of adopting the Euro as their single currency, which would help to maintain economic stability. The treaty was politicized by the fact that its main aim was to bind the Cold War Alliance partners EU. For example, the agreement would prevent Germany from realigning itself with East and Central Europe. Generally, as Oatley observes, economic agreements generate political responsibilities that are prone to political exploitation. The global political economy is manifest through international trade and international relations. Exports increase the economic well being of the exporting country but a high export surplus may be viewed by other nation states as an aggressive policy that may not promote friendly international relations. Treaties such as NAFTA, WTO, and COMESA have been significan t in promoting international trade. Regional alliances among nation states present various economic and political challenges including a decline in democratic space. Nations that get financial assistance from these organizations are compelled to pass laws that serve the economic and political interest of the dominant economies that are involved in the management of the institutions. Generally, recourse to the global political economy is important in understanding world politics as presented in this paper.

10 Most Important People in the United States Essay Example for Free

10 Most Important People in the United States Essay Abraham Lincoln is first because he did a lot as the first president of the united states. He abolished slavery, granted citizenship to all people, and gave all men the right to vote. One of the most important things about him was how he established the Emancipation Proclamation, which said that the union was willing to fight to end slavery. He was important because without him none of these things would have happened. George Washington was second because he did some very important things that impacted the U.   S. history. He was a general for the United States. He won two battles, then became president of the United States. He won the revolutionary war and the French and Indian war. He is important because without him the nation would still belong to Britain. Thomas Jefferson drafted the declaration of independence, which declared the 13 colonies a free and independent country. He was also involved in colonial policies and the negotiations that resulted in the Articles of Confederation. Later the US Constitution was made. As the 3rd President, he agreed to the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, doubling the size of the territory of the US. Without Thomas Jefferson the United States would have never been doubled in size in 1803 which would result in the United States being the same size it was before the Louisiana purchase. Andrew Jackson an army general who defeated the Creek Indians at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, and the British at the Battle of New Orleans. His enthusiastic followers created a Democratic Party, the Jacksonian democracy. He later became known as the 7th President of the United States. He is important because without him we would never have defeated the natives at these two battles. he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives. With Parliament’s passage of the Coercive Acts, Adams realized that the time had come for the Americans to invoke what he called â€Å"revolution-principles. †
